High street travel agent to sell overseas homes

HOLIDAYMAKERS will be able to buy an overseas home by walking into a high street travel agency.
In the first scheme of its kind, Thomson, the UK's biggest tour company, is starting the venture at its 750 high street stores.
The scheme is in partnership with the Parador Properties company in response to a growth in overseas home ownership.
From tomorrow, Thomson will be offering properties for purchase in Spain (including Majorca), Portugal and Cyprus.
More than 500,000 British households own a property overseas and this is expected to rise significantly over the next few years.
The research also revealed that owning a foreign home is now a life ambition for more than half of Britons, with as many as 38% considering buying abroad in order to get a foot on the property ladder.
This figure increases to 50% in the 16-24 age group, with a perceived lower cost of living a contributory factor in making overseas home ownership abroad attractive.
The Thomson research also showed that as many as 66% did not know where to find the information about the foreign property market.
Thomson marketing director Miles Morgan said: "Owning a home abroad is now a realistic option for many people."
